CO01 0 0 0 0 I am part of a non-partisan staff, and as such we do not influence policy as much as provide information regarding issues. Also, when I returned from the workshop, I was assigned to a new subject area and have not done any research on addictions since September 2005. However, I did share the information from the workshop with other members of my team who continue to work in this subject area.
GA01
GA02 0 0 0 1 I'm not sure on legislation or regulations, but funding was added by the Governor and supported by my chairman to fund a methamphetamine treatment program.
NJ01 1 0 0 1 Although the party I represent is not in control of the House and therefore has minimal influence on policy changes, the information I gained at the conference was essential in that I am able to inform my members of these issues when they do arise, and advocate the necessary changes when the time arrives.
AK01 0 0 0 0 They have not directly affected these bills as they were already in play. It has just added to my boss's understanding of the issues.
FL01 1 1 1 1 Filed legislation with regard to Baker Act and expansion of substance abuse users.
MD01 1   0 0 Don't know answer to Regulations question. The committee brought the State Pharmacy Board to discuss how they can limit access to precursor drugs. They informed her they will regulate this, but haven't gotten back to her with any details. Regarding reporting, they did talk to the state police. They have figures on the number of meth cases and will continue to track. Regarding Budget Changes: not that she is aware of. Possibly the state police or pharmacy board may need to modify the budget to accommodate new policies.

MD02 0 0 1 0 Again, I considered the presentations an introduction. The one area of weakness actually related to the economics of addiction which would have most relevance to my work as a budget analyst. While not useful directly in the most recent 2006 Session, I did gain some ideas that I think will be useful as I develop a better understanding of the area. However, I did recommend, and the legislature adopted, some reporting requirements with regard to funding.
IA01 1 1 1 1
ND01 1 0 1 1 Areas checked 'yes' above are a bit of a stretch. Interim Committees of the legislature are in the process of using much of the information provided to produce legislation for introduction, to improve reporting and monitoring that lead to improved budgeting practices.

NH01 1 0 0 0 As a "freshman" legislator, attending this conference raised my awareness of how much I enjoyed the "fast track" learning curve of the workshop. My now-enhanced knowledge about meth and other drugs has provided me with additional understanding of addiction problems and wonderful facts to share in hearings, with legislators, and as a presenter at area meetings and alcohol and drug forums in the greater community as well as participating more fully when attending the Governor's Commission on Alcohol & Drug meetings as a member of that commission's Task Force on Awareness, Education and Public/Private Funding Sources, as well as the Government Leaders' Task Force on Methamphetamine, NH Task Force on Women and Addiction, and New Futures (current initiative Underage Drinking). Without hesitation, I wrote two meth bills, and provided important knowledge to other caucus members who also chose to file meth bills. Almost every day I think of and share something that I learned at the Addiction Studies Workshop, and I often refer to the Addiction Studies Workshop when sharing such information. It was a valuable and wonderful experience, and a lovely weekend with interesting, like-minded individuals devoted to the same cause, which I will always be grateful to the National Conference of State Legislatures for giving me the opportunity to attend.

ME01 1 1 1 0 But please note I am able to assist and provide information in the legislative process. The knowledge gained last year was helpful in helping the committee and interested parties sponsor work through legislation about locating substance abuse treatment program rules and licensing, particularly for methadone programs.
NV01 0 0 0 0 I staff an interim study (the Legislative Committee on Health Care Subcommittee to Study Services for the Treatment and Prevention of Substance Abuse), which has not finished its process of investigation that will lead to making recommendations for legislation. I anticipate that my answers will be different next year when the Legislature is in session because the subcommittee is working on these topics; however, as of this moment, legislation, regulations, and budget changes have not been made because the Legislature has not been in session since I attended.

CO01 1 0 1 1 Perhaps over time, as legislators are more exposed to the data. Right now, they are more familiar with anecdotes than the science.
GA01 1 1 1 1 The key is educating enough people who are involved in the legislative and budgeting process.
GA02 1 1 1 1 "Knowledge is power"
NJ01 1 0 0 1 In New Jersey, needle exchange legislation is pending in both houses. It appears that more support is building to implement public policies that are more conducive to the needs of the addicted. The call for more substance abuse program funding has heretofore fallen on deaf ears. It is possible that even in these tight budget times, the momentum is pushing policy makers to finally increase funding for substance abuse programs.
AK01 1 1 1 1 We hope to introduce legislation next session dealing with more of these issues.
FL01 1 1 1 1
MD01 1 1   1 She is retiring. The other members of the committee will be ready and willing to move forward. Members of the committee will want to be more effective dealing with meth. Different people from different agencies have different responsibilities. This information my lead to reporting changes but not sure. Budget changes: probably, but hard to tell what needs to be done and who will do it. They need hard data to request and receive more money.
KS01 1 1 1 1 There are many challenges facing our legislature and the information I gained from this conference should help me have a more informed input into these discussions.

FL02 1
MD02     1 1
IA01 1     1 Modest increase in Iowa's addiction treatment funding.
ND01 1 1 1 1 One never knows for sure until legislation hits the floor for debate, however, given the significant Meth problems with which we are dealing, legislators seem quite sympathetic to fostering constructive, productive changes in the areas of policy, budgeting and accountability.
MD03         Don't know. I'm a member of the legislative staff, doing policy analysis of bills. I don't draft bills, nor do I work on the annual budget.
NH01 1 1 1 1 The information is sure to lead to MORE new or modified legislation as the issues continue to unfold and some like methamphetamine (on the east coast) dramatically increase. So, I do expect that regulations will change within departments as a result, and that reporting and monitoring requirements will also be enhanced, as will the budget needs change. For some of these changes to be effective, I believe we will need to additional or modified legislation. I hope to be re-elected next Fall, so that I can continue to participate in the continuing process.
NH02 1 1 1 1
VI01 1 1 1 1
IA02 1     1 Hard to predict future legislative action. I think this type of information could contribute to incremental increases in substance abuse treatment budget.
ME01         Unable to comment here. Service ? Info and work for solutions that reflect best practices but I am unsure what legislation will be submitted in the future. Alas…?
NV01 1 1 0 1 Your survey needs a "do not know" option. I do not know if reporting or monitoring requirements will change. "No" implies that I think they will not change - which is not the case.
IA03 1 1 1 1
ND02 1 0 0 1 Unsure but hopeful for regulations and reporting requirements.
