Beginning in 2007, the Addiction Studies Program for State Legislatures changed its format to include leaders and key staff members from the executive as well as the legislative branch of state government. This program is now known as the Addiction Studies Program for the States. The program invites governors, speakers of the house, and presidents of the senate from selected states to send a team from their states to attend a two and one-half day workshop. Teams include legislators, legislative staff, governor's staff, and agency staff and are bi-partisan, bi-cameral, and cross-disciplinary (health, human services, criminal justice, child welfare, appropriations, etc.). The workshops are comprised of interactive presentations by faculty and facilitated team sessions to formulate state plans to improve state policy and services related to drug use and addiction. In 2009, the program moved from conducting two workshops for two states each to one workshop for four states per year.
No more workshops for the states are planned.
