Advice on Parenting

Q: My son has been attending a special boarding school for struggling teens. He has been there for eight months and has not seemed to "get it" about his behavior. I am worried about his return. Do you have any advice on boys returned from boarding/reform school and still defiant to authority?

A.  While he is still at school, use all the resources the school has available to you to plan for his return - counselors, local contacts, local support groups. You may be pleasantly surprised by his behavior when he comes home. If so, let him know you appreciate it. Get some support for yourself in advance of his return. One source of support may be Toughlove, a national organization with many local chapters. Find out more by going to their website at www.toughlove.org. Good luck to you and your son.
