Bright and Brief

Domestic News
May 17, 1982

For sale: four cartons of "marijuana papers." Seller: the DeKalb County marshal.

"There's nothing I can do about it," said Marshal W.L. Austin, who is handling the auction this week in the settlement of a tenant-landlord property case. "They sell marijuana papers all over the county. You can get them any place you walk into."

The papers will be auctioned off in a public sale at the DeKalb County Courthouse. The sale comes from a case in which a tenant is being forced to sell the inventory of his record store _ including the papers _ to pay back rent.

Sue Rusche, head of a local anti-drug group, DeKalb Families in Action, said, "Maybe we should get the sheriff to arrest the marshal for selling drug paraphernalia."
