More Adult Americans on Probation for DWI than for Drug Offenses

Twenty-four percent of the 3,839,532 men and women on probation as of December 31, 2000, had been convicted of driving while intoxicated; 18 percent had been convicted of a drug law violation.

The total adult correctional population includes incarcerated inmates as well as probationers and parolees living in the community. On December 31, 2000, 3,839,532 Americans were on probation, 1,312,354 were in prisons, 621,149 were in local jails, and 725,527 were on parole. Full Report.
